Boosting Rankings through Social Bookmarking
January 15, 2008

If you're not submitting your blog posts, articles and web pages to social bookmarking sites, you're missing out on a lot of link-love that Google looks fondly upon.
You see, my Search Engine Myths Exposed report makes it clear that you don't have to get links from related sites to rank (known in the SEO world as "themed links"). As long as the links come from quality pages, Google will happily count them toward your ranking.
Social Bookmarking sites currently have a lot of value in Google's eyes. Google seems to love sites that rely on democracy to decide what deserves the highest rank (thus their own link-based algorithm). By submitting your pages to these sites, the links will often get crawled and applied to your ranking very quickly — often within a few days.
I've been giving my pages an extra boost by submitting to a few dozen bookmarking sites myself, and I've seen rank increases to the tune of 3 to 5 ranking points on Google's first page of results for my chosen keywords.
I can't share the keywords with you because the sites are in the 3WayLinks.net network, and it's against the terms to share that information. Suffice it to say that the keywords are competitive enough to provide hundreds of visitors per day with my current rankings. That's one of the things I love about 3WayLinks.net — it provides a solid link base on which to build your rankings for tougher keywords.
A couple of great tools to use when submitting to SBMs are SocialMarker.com and OnlyWire.com. SocialMarker.com makes the process of submitting your sites semi-automated, whereas OnlyWire.com fully automates the submission. Both are good tools that are worth looking into (and both are free).
When submitting your pages to social bookmarking sites, set your title tag to the keywords that you want to rank for to get the most value from Google for your links. If you're interested in generating traffic from the bookmarking sites themselves, you'll want to modify your titles to be appealing to viewers as well.
For instance, if you want to rank for the phrase "old time radio", just set your title to "old time radio." But if you want to draw visitors, "Old time radio - Thousands of free MP3 shows!" would work much better. Keep in mind, though, that you sacrifice some link value when the link to your site is not your exact keywords.
If your site is brand new, vary your titles so that the links pointing to your site do not all contain the same keywords. If your site is already established with lots of links, a few dozen links with the same link text is not going to be a problem, and it's safe to just use your main keywords as the titles.
If you're hoping to draw visitors from social bookmarking sites to an AdSense revenue site, keep in mind that visitors at bookmarking sites are notorious for never clicking on your ads. If your only form of revenue on the site is AdSense, you might want to word your titles for maximum SEO value and forgo the visitors directly from the sites.
Let me close with another good social bookmarking experience. A friend of mine setup a site that he wanted to rank for a "low hanging fruit" set of keywords (razor targeted for great conversion rates, but without getting hundreds of visitors a day). He asked for my advice, and I offered to submit his site to the social bookmarking sites for him.
He agreed, and I did so. At the time of the submission his site was stuck on page 3 of Google's results. A few days later he freaked out because his site disappeared from the rankings (this is typical when a new site gets a bunch of links quickly–your site will often disappear while Google recalculates your ranking). But about a week after that his site jumped onto page 2 of Google. Not long after that he was on page one. Now he's one happy camper, and it was thanks to social bookmarking links!
So when you're out looking for places to get links from, don't forget about social bookmarking sites. They won't perform miracles with your rankings, but they certainly give a solid boost.
I'd love to know what you think! Please leave your thoughts and questions in a comment below.

Thanks for the info jon, I have been wondering about this technique.
Appreciate the tip

Great Post… Great info….

Most saliet point for me.
Excellent onformation Jonathan.
Thank You
Jon, great content as always! Thanks for mentioning those bookmarking sites. Like everyone I saw the stompernet videos and before they even came out I was using social bookmarking but stopped because I didn't really see any huge results. For the life of me I couldn't remember the service I was using and your article made me remember. So thanks! lol
Ironically I was just writing about social bookmarking yesterday. In a nutshell, there is a new service (PostToaster.com) that actually helps you find social bookmarking websites that don't support no follow tags. So you can actually get some link juice. Thought you and your readers might find that useful too!

Thanks guys, and thank-you Eddy for that site. I'll check it out. (But FYI, links to personal sites aren't allowed in the comments — though of course you can link to whatever you want in the URL field.)
I never took that Web 2.0 stuff very seriously until Stompernet did their promotion and now, there's also Jonathan bringing my attention on something really important I was missing. I'm really learning a lot from you. I now have something to add to the power of 3 Way Links. Thanks.
Luc
I have heard this works well but I haven't tried. Can you give some numbers as to how many sites you want to post to and per day/ per month etc.
Thanks
Sean
sean:
If your site is new, submit to a half dozen per day. If your site is established (with at least 100-150 links in already), then submitting to all 20 or 30 at once shouldn't hurt you.
WOW, is was good to see that you can post to several social sites at once, I have always thought that it should have been possible and now I realise it is…
Thanks Jonathan

Social sites is the new trend, and when people learn of new trends, they eventually become abused by over zealous webmasters who will spam the system.
As time goes by, there will be more and more automated apps that will spam posts automatically without intervention. We've seen this all too often when a new opportunity comes along…
How long will the SE's tolerate this behavior before this is another "dust in the pan" technique?
Good post Jon. Good points about visitors not clicking on Adsense ads. I'd heard that before. An easy way to submit your sites is through various outsourcing services such as on DP. However, if done the wrong way, the social networking sites might ban your site.
Great advice as usual Jon, but the problem seems to be a little overwhelming.
Not really understanding SBM and getting bombarded with all sorts of information is leading (me anyway) to analysis paralysis…
Setting enough TIME to investigate and use all these resources when there are (conflicting) opinions as to this site or that site and the benefits of each is simply just O V E R L O A D !
I'll work my way through it one of these days
regards, David
Hello jhonathan
Great topic and even though I have just started working on blogs I find that it will be the one thing to focus on to createting traffic. I do see the value in this way of communicating. Social Networking seems to be just more than a trend and a way for all too bring this world closer together.
Hi Jon,
Thanks for the tip and the two submission sites.
I will definitely be trying this out will also have to get back to working on my squidoo lenses.
Cheers
Gez
Hi Jon,
Forgot to ask your thoughts on the current rave about posting videos to get links back to sites…have you tried this?
Cheers
Gez
Gez:
Most of the video sites I've submitted to don't allow live links in your video descriptions, etc., so it doesn't help much for SEO purposes. However, I've generated a lot of visitors and quite a bit of pay-per-lead cash from mass video submission.
G'day Jon,
Quality post mate… again.
I can certainly back up what Jon is saying here.
I am enjoying Page one traffic because of this very
tactic. I started my site Nov 14th and currently have #9
and #7 for my 2 chosen phrases.
SocialMarker works like a charm. (*wink*)
Great post John. I have been using the tools at www.onlywire.com and the tools at http://ekstreme.com/socializer/ to do alot of social bookmarking automatically. Just make sure you do not over do it or some sites may ban your site and or your IP for spam submissions. I t aheppended to me on digg
Good advice Jon.
The only downside with using OnlyWire is that you can't use keyword phrases as tags. In other words, you can not use a keyword phrase (more than one word) as it will see them as two separate Tags. The only way to get around this is to use "smooshes", e.g. 'keywordphrase' (instead of 'keyword phrase').
I've done several case studies involving social bookmarking and social content sites over the past month on my blog, Affiliate Marketing Diary, and one thing is for sure: Social Media Marketing works!
In any event, thanks for sharing and I look forward to another insightful blog post.
All the best,
Steven
Jon,
Thank you for writing about this and for posting those websites to use. I have been feeling depressed that I haven't been on social bookmarking but honestly with all the other things that need done, where to find the time? This just helps to add another little feather to my cap.
Between the 2 services I use of yours (3WayLinks & QualityContent.net), LinkVana, and article and url directories, I have a full load but a good solid marketing plan. Until something new comes along of course…
Rhonda Morin
Social Bookmarking links have proven to be very beneficial to new and old sites. But finding the time to do all that bookmarking is tough. That's where the bigger bookmarking tools like Onlywire prove their worth.
Some other beneficial things you can do is use Flickr photos and YouTube videos on your site to help in indexing, etc.
Thanks for the insights. And yes, you don't want to overdue it. I knew about OnlyWire, but not Social Marker.
But even if you submit your site to these social bookmarking sites, won't other people have to "digg" or "stumble" your content for it (and your site) to increase in value?
DK:
No, others don't have to vote for your listing in order for it to get counted as a quality link from Google. The votes from other users effects your standing on the site, and how many visitors you get from the site, but Google sees a link as a link regardless of the number of votes it has on the bookmarking site.
Dear Johnathan
Am on your blog and I wanted some information from the sections "Highly Recommended" and "Pages" but the links do not work. The links in all the other sections work fine.
Just thought you would want to know.
Your 3waylinks and information is some of the bvery best I have ever seen.
Thanks
Dan
Hi Jon thanks for the great info. In the past it was a big traffic boost to post on Digg, but lately its so competitive its hard to make the front page of Digg now.
I have had great success with Stumbleon though. I can typically put up a Squidoo lens and then stumble it and get an almost 100 or so immediate hits.
One of the best social bookmark sites I've used for getting on the first page of Google though has been Newsvine. Almost every one of the bookmarks I've posted there get on Google's 1st page within 48 hours or so.

Great post, Jon
Only yesterday i finished setting up accounts with all the bookmaking sites associated with socialmaker and onliwire.
I have one question thou, how many pages of a domain would you bookmark to one social bookmaking accounts?
I've heard a lot said about being careful with this, but nothing specific!
Thanks
Jayen
Nice post Jon,
My only issue is I have found OnlyWire to be highly unreliable in actually getting the book marks placed. The other issue is many of the Social Sites now either nofollow the links or they you redirects which link first internally then externally effectively making the link useless for SEO purposes. Some don't so that is good. I also feel nofollow does not work to totally devalue the link in fact I have proven that, so nofollow things like delicious are still worth doing.
What I have always wondered is why doesn't someone make a service like Onlywire that actually works. I was using Diigo's toolbar but found that to not get a lot of sites marked as well.
Building Wealth:
I've noticed that sometimes OnlyWire doesn't submit properly as well. It was a 50/50 shot with me, which is why I don't rely on it by itself but also use SocialMarker.com and some other tools.
I would not submit more than one page of your domain to each site per day, if that often. You don't want to get banned for spamming. I'd say that as you add content to your blog, or a new article to a site, bookmark it.
Hi Jon,
Thanks for sharing this useful information. Sometimes just practicing those little excercises such as using social bookmarking really does make a difference.
I'll try doing it some more.
Until your next post, peace!
Marsha
I started bookmarking in mid-06, and it definately helped my sites in MSN. It wa stuck on page 3 and suddenly, after about 3 or 4 days, it shot up to #1 !
However, I will check out the links you gave above and submit my site(s).
you know im a fan of your stuff and we have even chatted a few times at the warrior so im sure you know i hate to disagree with you but…have you actually looked into onlywire.com at all. it may have worked at one time but its pretty close to worthless now.
on several occasions i have submitted something with them and then logged into each of the accounts at a latter time to see what happened. I first got a clue about this while checking my own backlinks and heres the funny thing about only wire.
It only marks to a couple of sites. its a broken tool. Yet…i did manage to find a few tags in my accounts at some of the social site that onlywire went ahead and gave itself. to me thats a bit of a footprint that i dont need.
aside from that little bump they give themselves, its just a flawed site. Blogmemes is one of the sites it allegedly will "submit to". NO. its a wordpress run site that requires a multistep log in.
at last attempt i only managed to actually have 4 out of all of the sites listed in onlywire to actually bookmark. 4 is better than none i understand but hardly enough to call it a service free or not.
If you send an email to them dont ever expect a reply either.
aside from only wire being almost useless now, I have to completely agree with you on the rest of the post.
Diigo.com is another multi-marker as I like to call them that is in my opinion worth a look for everyone.
p.s. i also posted a reply to your last post about the affiliate program SEO benefits. If you get a second I'd like to hear your thoughts on that one.
The service you provide marketers is the ability to see past the hype and help people see how simple marketing online really us.
Just good common sense, a few tactics and you're done.
I love your 3waylinks system and I'm evangelizing it to all my marketing students. I'm surprised more people aren't jumping on to promoting that.
I guess maybe it threatens all marketing advice, because you've boiled down SEO to something that's so simple, a monkey child can do it.
Great work.

Hey Jon! Great Read. When are you going to come out with your version of this stuff? 3WL is awesome HOWEVER these social sites lack something very important. Ease of Use. For someone like myself, I cannot get bogged down doing these posts or I lose focus from the sites i am trying to build.
Later…

Great post, Jonathan. It's been my experience that if you want quick, targetted traffic (aimed around the "low-hanging fruit" keyword phrases)then social bookmarking is definitely the way to go. What I do is set-up a "trial" run on a free site like Squidoo for a niche I'm interested in, social bookmark it and watch what happens. If all goes well and I get the responses I want, I start up a domain and use the same social bookmarking sites to promote the site. This will get Google to index you quicker, as well as adding links. Once I have my required 2 pages indexed, I set up with 3WayLinks for the long-run success and staying power. As time passes, I start the social bookmarking all over again targetting desperate, long-tail keywords. The end result is lots of traffic and sales. Works like a charm!
Just a quick question just in case anyone might know- What ever happened to Technaroti's WTF (Where's The Fire)? I haven't checked in a while, but it had been down for some time. That site would have you in a number 1-5 spot for your keywords almost every time with Google… but sadly, now it seems to be gone.
Jonathon,
I thought you said in one of your early posts that you'll submit a few times a day. I was confused about this as later on you seemed to say that for a new site you'd submit at most to 6 sites. Do you mean you'd do all 6 individually vs using onlywire and what was the reference to a few times a day about? Thanks.

Yes, Jon, it does help to submit your webpages to Social Bookmarking sites. This is one of my secrets to getting my websites and webpages like article pages, blog posts and so on to rank on Page One of Google. Google loves Social Bookmarking Sites. And you have forgotten to mention about Social Networking Sites as well for backlinking. They work great! =)
Definitely great for articles, lenses, hubpages, lists and other forms of social web 2.0 sites that need an extra boost…….but thank god…your not trying to push SMARTS…….besides thats old news anyways…..
Perhaps you should add that it might be useful to include tools like the one from addthis.com to your site. By using addthis not only you yourself submit so social bookmarking sites, but your readers do it for you, too, thus making the impact even stronger!
Hi Jonathan,
I have been following your tips for some time now, I was an early beta tester of your 3waylinks. I have also had the most amazing success this week using SB to promote my SEO Target Marketing campaign. I dont want to use this important issue as link bait so i wont mention the product.
The result:
40% of the first page Google results in less than 48hrs for the term "SEO Ninja" thats position #2, #3, #4, #5 & #10. I only built the page on Sunday, I was dominating the results by Tuesday.
Now i know its not a competitive term, but hey if you got a niche i bets its gone be on the longtail so this strategy works amazing. big up Jonathan you are so on it when it comes to SEO.
warm regards and to your successs,
Rod Gardner
Hi Jonathan
Have been reading your blogs with great interest.
I only just finished your report on SEO Myths exposed and absolutely loved the content.
Many thanks for every bit of extra "gold" that you add to your blog.
Its is so refreshing that there are "ethical marketers" around who are prepared to lay it all down and provide the figures to back it up.
Take care

Thanks for the excellent tips!
There so much Internet Courses available in the beginning of 2008 eg like this one SMART and the coming one Internet Marketing Explain and so on…
Please advise which course for a newbie to take…
Hi Jonathan,
I have using Social Bookmarking for few of my new site, it great and having 200 to 300 visitor from Google organic traffic. I only submit to about 20 bookmarking site for every pages of my site to each bookmarking at the first day and get the first page from #2 to #8 position on some keyword.
But, after 3 week running, all my site are dissapear from googel listing. I don't know what the problem, maybe I submit overload.
Thank You
David Yui
Thanks for the information, Jon. I haven't had the same success as you with this, but I haven't done as much as you either.
Keep up the great work.
Hi Jonathan,
Can you pls take a look at my blog which is at {snip: no personal urls please} to see if it is still suitable to use yr 3waylinks program to increase traffic?
I don't have 50 websites, just this one only…
I am not on Adsense Ads program but on others Ads programs does it still works?
Tks for your adv.
BRgds,
Phua
Hi Phua,
Blogger blogs won't work in the network because they don't support PHP scripting (and because they are on subdomains, which is also not accepted).
Aren't we lucky to have Jon? Someone could charge you dollars for spilling some beans like this but he's doing it for free!
Anyway, I have proven submitting to social bookmarking sites (dofollow only)to be an effective SEO tactic. One of my sites got a real boost on a highly competitive keyword from page 5 on Google to 1 in a matter of 7 days. Now, I'm on to "dominate" another keyword for that site.
Thanks.
thanks for the info that you gave to me Jon. im going to try it
Jon,
Great post and timely as well.
I do have a few questions, when you get a chance?
1. How do you find out how many links that your site has? I'm a total dunce in this regard.
2. What other tools do you use for social bookmarking? I said that you use Onlywire and Socialmarker, but what else? You said that "OnlyWire doesn't submit properly as well. It was a 50/50 shot with me, which is why I don't rely on it by itself but also use SocialMarker.com and some other tools." so I was curious as to what else you use.
Thanks!
I was of the opinion that most of this bookmarking sites use no-follow
does Google still count it as a backlink or what does the no-follow
thing do?
I agree with Jon that indeed Social Bookmarking is a great way to get quality backlink as well as pretty decent free traffic. But, as Jon had said, it's true that u can get banned by the bookmarking sites if u submit too often within a day.
The free service OnlyWire mentioned has been around for quite a while. It basically allows u to submit to about 20 bookmarking sites at one go. But, u have to create an account one-by-one at each of the site yourself. This can be quite tedious and boring. The other 2 drawbacks are the sites are quite limited (some in the list are not working) and it doesn't allow u to use keyword phrase in the tag.
I've since moved on to using software to do the bookmarking for me. The one i'm using right now is pretty neat. It has more sites listed compared to OnlyWire and it can create accounts for u automatically. It also allows keyword phrase as well as allowing u to create multiple profiles so that u don't leave too much footprint on the net in case u're accused of spamming. The best part I like about it is that the software gets updated almost every single month to keep in pace with the latest development of some of the bookmarking sites.
For those who're looking for free services alternative to OnlyWire, getbookmark dot com is something new and worth trying. Hope the above sharing helps.
Jon,
Nice article as always. Thanks foe the submission service links.
Anything to automate and save time is a plus!

Hi Johnathon, I enjoyed your Search Engine Myths Exposed ebook a lot. Enjoyed this article, I have been posting to some social bookmarking sites for about a month. I have yet to see any action from that.I plan to continue for a while
Thanks for the information.. Can you clarify about the diff b/w Social marker and only wire… What is meant by semi-automated, fully automated system…!

Nice tip jon. These kind of advices can do miracles.
Hello Jon,
Will language matter when posting to the Social Networks? My business / website is in Mexico and in Spanish. Obviously, my keywords and keyphrases are in Spanish as well. Will Social Networks still help my spanish keywords rank better even if I'm surrouned by dominant english language?
Also, what if I have three different comments and keyphrases I want to submit but pointing to different webpages in my same domain, for example, one having to do with hosting (/hospedaje-web.php), one with domain registration (/registro-de-dominios.php) and one with web design (/diseno-de-paginas-web.php)? Could I risk being banned if I post these three comments the same day?
Thanks Jon!! Excellent information as always!!
Sergio
Great info. I do social bookmarking myself and it really helps with the links. Thanks for the tips.
Great post and glad I found this blog. I'm assuming when you say that visitors from social sites don't click on Adsense ads you're talking about Adsense ads on what is a recognizable Adsense template — not a blog with alot of original content that happens to also have Adsense ads on it..
I usually wait to get a Google Alert for my own post before I submit it to the Social Bookmarks.
Jon, I continue to appreciate your content! …And the valuable feedback that usually follows.
Chris, another handy tool for checking your external links is https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/

"this is typical when a new site gets a bunch of links quickly–your site will often disappear while Google recalculates your ranking"
Lol I always get emails from clients freaking when this happens - probably need to educate them better.
Good introduction to those new to the SEO value of social bookmarking. Hope to see more!
Nice post Jonathan! always good infos.
You really understand what you are doing, like a expert!
Lol!!!!!
Hey this is a brilliant blog. Thanks so much for the useful tips and links. I will definitely be making use of them!
Just curious which would improve the fastest …
A Brand New Site or An Established Site?
Your tips make me easy to submit my blog to social bookmark..Tq John !!
I like to put in the "Bookmark" button that is free at AddThis.com.
They have a new javascript one that pops up with the services you want to use.
Thanks, Jon. Great post. This technique really pays off. It is well worth the effort and time. I have seen significant jumps in certain terms in Google. It can also help to get you indexed quickly.
Thanks Jon. I knew about Onlywire but I didn't now about Social Marker which can help you link to the sites that use Captcha. Onlywire can't do that.
Hi,
I have a number of sites hosted by www.whypark.com which saves a lot of time but is limited in some respects.
I am considering your 3way links program as a way of increasing my adsense income.Would your program work for me.
Any advice you can give me would be appreciated

Excellent foresight as ever. One reason why most "marketers" have been given the elbow from my "incoming list" in favour of the one or two who really do offer something useful and interesting. Thanks
Thanks Jonathan,
Can you over do it. I reason I'm asking is I started to do this with the posts on my blog as I wrote one I used digg to get the ball rolling but unfortunately I've now got banned from digg they won't accept any more submissions from my site.(I was only digging one article per day)
I also use onlywire but can you over do it or how can you prevent yourself getting into trouble?
Hmmmm….. so this is what I gather from this post and all your other posts Jon. Use social bookmarking, blog comment box's, forums and social networking sites to build your oneway backlinks. Also if your lazy you can use 3waylinks:) I have it and its great so its definitely worth mentioning. I have one problem though…..
Whats the story with nofollow? I mean, some say it only affects your PR and some say it affects your PR and SERPS. Should we stay away from sites that use nofollow? Its a chore trying to get enough sites together that don't use nofollow.
Nice post Jon. I've been following the stompernet social bookmarking with interest and your comments add further evidence that this is a viable strategy to follow.
Great info thanks, and I'd say that the key thing a lot of people have picked up is not to go over-board with your submissions, as it can horribly back-fire. Slow and steady is the way to go.
Hi Jon,
thanks for the information. I didn't know about this technique, will definitely try them out to see if it works and will post it to your blog for the results.
Thanks again.

A Dream To Make A Full Time Income Online
Tip: social bookmarking / social networking, it is supposed to be a community thing. So take part in the game. For example when you digg other sites than yours on a regular basis Digg.com will appreciate that and won't ban your site so quickly.
Hey, Jon, thanks for the email, your article is very good. I have posted a few links - on social networks like Yuwie etc. As my websites are fairly new, including my blogs, I have got a long way to go! But I will implement your advice in to my strategy.
I have bookmarked your article for easy reference! Keep em coming
Hello Jonathan,
Ever since I downloaded your free report, Search Engine Myths Exposed, I must confess my eyes were opened to serious ideas and boost my confidence to tackle SEO headlong.
Thanks for removing my fears
Now to this social bookmarking post. Another excellent post and quite educating and assuring. Again, thanks.
But Jonathan, I have a certain negative experience with OnlyWire.com. I used it about 3 weeks ago but it seems to have submitted only one of my sites and left the rest. I ended up doing manual submission.
But haven’t tried SocialMarker.com yet.
Thanks for sharing.
this was a good info..never thought of that…that mate!!!
Hi I too have been using this and other web 2.0 marketing techniques with some success since last September as featured on my Blog.
Guess I should have not offered all my research for free and instead charged $1000 fee to subscribe - ah well, next time
Hi Jon,
Valuable post, indeed. I have tried Onlywire.com & didn't know about socialmarker.com
It would have benefited if you added some notes regards to posting descriptions in these services. Should descriptions also to be optimized for keywords? I felt adding keywords in description should not overdo the purpose of SEO.
Also, does length of description really matter? short or long? What would be the safer words limit to post?
Thanks for free tips
Once again Johathan has provided excellent useful, reliable information without hype or spin. It's a pleasure to read posts which are obviously designed to actually help marketers rather than simply sell something. Johathan once again demonstrates that providing value and working with integrity are the keys to success online.
Hi Jon,
Wanted to add there are all kinds of black-hat SB tools. White hat ones I use as plugin to my WP blogs. Tried some desktop tools like Delicioso - don't work well and got my accounts banned, when I added too many links at one go, as they enable. Purchased Web2.0Submitter which half automates things, but for some unfortunate reason my computer blocks this program (and other such too)…
Socialize.us is an ok service, but mostly I use buttons from toolbar of my FF browser…
Aside from this, I recommend one gets a proper web2.0 course to maximize linking strategy between web2.0 properties.
Reading someone above mentioned Google may view these SB as a passing fad: well, it sure will take time to get a new one… Google has revamped their algorithms and what gets up front today is web2.0 properties and authority sites- within hours, sometimes minutes…
Hi Jonathan,
thanks alot for sharing some great tips here on making use of Social Bookmarking sites, as well as your fantastic free report "Search Engine Myths Exposed"……you've certainly opened my eyes to the incredible opportunity available to get top rankings for my own websites….:-)
Great post as normal Jonathan! I have a load of articles floating about here and there so it may be a good idea to social bookmark a few to see what happens
Hi Jon
Thanks for useful tips.
Submitting sites or new blog post to social bookmarking is one way to get visitor. I tried this method but only using 3 social networking sites (stumble upon, digg and reddit). Yes, they bring traffics for my site.
The question is how to make steady traffic using social networking site?
Best Regards
Edy
thank for the info..
is a great tip for me when i wanna do a wed in future..

Another excellent article and advice on highly effective, however, not well known or understood marketing advice using social bookmarking to promote your ideas, products, and / or services.
Thank you.
I would add 2 personal tips to this post.
(1) Choose only those social networks that display your bookmarking page to the public and search engines. The vast majority of boomarking networks do that by default. But some will display your bookmarks only to the logged members, and if you try to hit the same page unlogged, you will see the page - but none of the bookmarks. This will cut you off from the link power.
(2) For those who are afraid to get many backlinks quickly - the solution is to balance the growth. Register 3-4 accounts at first, and then - in 2 weeks - add 10 more accounts. This will make the link growth look more natural.
Hi again Jonathan,
UPDATE to my earlier post:
I stated 48 hrs to success yet this amazing and beyond my belief.
the campaign i mentioned was "seo target marketing". I installed WP as the backbone of the campaign to generate pages from RSS feeds. I optimized the titles and template and started promoting to SB yesyeday at 4.30pm uk time.
the first post to the blog was at 2008-01-15 4:47:47 pm and in less than 12hours i have held positions between 1-3 at differnet data centres of google.co.uk for the term seo target marketing and they have held there for the last 6hrs.
the term is taken from SEO Book keyword tool and is listed as the second highest term wheni searched for seo marketing.
so its not just low hung fruit, it can work just as well for high ranking terms and even quicker.
best regards
Rod Gardner
I guess when you hear something often enough it means you need to start doing it, right?
Hi,
Thanks for your idea. I'm getting visitors from these sites.
Thanks for your analyzed report. I'm using onlywire and socialmarker is new for me. Thanks
Nice idea.
Thank you Jonathan for the free information! Very valuable.
For all readers, who use AdSense on their sites: Search for Joel Comm and his Adsense secrets. That's great, too!
I wonder, for how long Google will live…
Thanks for the tip about SocialMarker.com and OnlyWire.com!
Great information Jon. Very informative and helpful. I'll certainly pass this on to my readers and subscriber lists.
Jon,
Again very good reading. Thanks,
Stephen
Hi Jon,
Sorry to be a little ignorant, but could you please give a really quick tutorial as to how to use onlywire.com because they don't explain how, and I'm not sure how to submit to the social bookmarking sites.
Thanks a lot, great article once again.
Alex
Jon - great comments - as always, I really enjoy your posts.
Thanks for this great information Jon. I will definitely use it….
However, I am too much of a newbie to be able to use onlywire.com despite having spent some considerable time on the site! These sorts of sites always seem to be aimed at people who already know what they're doing. Do I add the HTML to every blog/article? Or do I type the URL into my browser and hit return? Please could you do a tutorial showing how to use SocialMarker.com and OnlyWire.com for us social networking submission newbies?
Many thanks!
Susan
Interesting to see so many posts indicating that OnlyWire is now a broken tool. It's the only SBM tool I've used and though I use it sparingly, I expected to see a bit more SEO-wise from it than I have but now I understand why. Guess it's time to move on to one of the other tools mentioned here.
Thanks to all for sharing your experiences.
Yes, we've just started signing up for some SBM sites, so we can begin using SocialMarker.com
We also came across a tool called Auto Social Poster that sounds very good, but it's not free (or even cheap).
Anybody any experience of this product?
Thanks.
I've been using SB for some time, and it definitely does help your linking/ranking. Like article marketing, the main benefit is not direct traffic, but links. As for sites like Onlywire not working, it seems like half the Web 2.0 world doesn't work right about half the time.
Jon, you're absolutely correct though, on the poor Adsense performance. This varies by niche a bit though I suspect. I haven't had time to watch the Stompernet videos, so I'm not sure if they mention this, but I use SB in a way that I've never heard anyone else talk about. You can use this simple multi-step process…
1. Create a page with all of the right on page SEO factors.
2. Get a few inpointing links (could be from a link partner).
3. Bookmark both your page and the pages that link to that page with the keywords you want to rank for (I use Onlywire).
I bookmark all of my link partner's sites (a very small part of my link building strategy, but still). One of the most powerful ways to make this work, though, is to submit an SEO'd article to a top article site. Deep link to your target page from the article as well as the home page. Then bookmark that page as well as the page it links to, and your home page. Enjoy - Kurt
Hey Jon
I picked up the tips to the two social bookmarker services you mentioned from your SEO report and have submitted pages as you suggested. i do see an increase in the number of inbound links from yahoo but nothing from the other two. No change in ranking yet but it's still a bit early I guess.
Regards
Kevin
Hey John
I really like you, and I follow you from the launched of generous 7DollarSecrets
I work hard to promote a website of a friend of mine, and it's rised on page on Yahoo, floating from 2 to 8 position for 3 keywords, and on Google somewhere to 40th row.
I received around 2-3 leads per day for very competitive car shipping industry.
But it seems to me that being on very high position as 2nd or 3rd row on 1st page, don't bring too many customers.
But you may get hundreds per day, if you know how to write your HTML source.
Also recently it's came on market www.AffiliateELITTE.com which can reverse Google payperclick advertising, and can identify how much your competitors exactly pay and for waht keywords. Watch the 5 free videos.
What about that ?
Hi Jon
Thanks so much for all this info.
Really appreciate it
Sincerely
Norma
Thanks for the great information and tips Jon! Social Bookmarking Marketing is something that every new and advanced online marketer SHOULD TRY.
In the ever competitive world of internet marketing it has never been more essential to ensure your site makes use of the best SEO marketing advice possible. Follow Jonathan Leger's advice, I use SB sites and networking sites to get #1 rankings overnight..it works. The first step in marketing to success is belief in yourself. Your going to need patience and passion but the results are quicker than adwords and more productive.
Hi Jon and thank you for the great info. I too have recently started submitting to social bookmarking sites. I was particularly interested to learn that even though I have several sites related to different subjects, and each in a keyword related subdomain, that I could be banned by the bookmarking sites if I submit too often from the same parent domain.

Dear Jon
You are the only person out of more than 20 in whose link I am proud to be.
Your posts are so educative and a fine balance of sales letter and pure knowledge.
Is there a scientific study on your comment regarding visitors from Social Bookmarking sites - that they do not click adsense ads ?
[…] Jonathan Legar recently posted an article on his blog titled "Boosting Rankings through Social Bookmarking" Currently I am using a lot of his tools that he promotes and I will keep reporting on how well I am doing with them. But in his blog he states… […]
Heard a ton about social bookmarking but haven't tried utilizing the power of them yet.
The SMART videos kinda made me open my eye, and this post of yours jolted me awake.
Thanks again for your valuable advice Jon!
Hi Jon,
Thanks again for the great post.
I have been using Social Bookmarking for more than a year now, yes, it works wonderfully well in getting back links and increasing traffic.
OnlyWire used to work pretty well but unfortunately, it is no longer so. I have moved on to "BookMarking Demon" and 'Auto Social Poster". The first tool is a desktop software where the latter has to be installed on your server, both tools work very well.
Cheers,
Keith.
Jon:
Why is the 3waylink limited to 250 links? You presented a case study in the sales letter leading me to believe that the 1300 links from Google was a result of 3way links.
Would you take a moment to clarify? Did you include social bookmarking and article writing for the links beyond the 250 you are selling in 3Way? Or, is it because you own the software you put your case study into the unlimited 3Way mode?
Thanks in advance for the clarification.
Seve
Jonathan, I joined Stompernet's SMART program. The preliminary work has been intensive and very useful for me. The class starts this Monday, Jan. 21.
Cool Jim. Update me on what you think of it if you can.
Steve:
It's limited to 250 in order to keep the cell size large enough to rank for niche keywords but small enough to keep from drawing undue attention.
The salespage is all about the case study with the 250 links. Where are you getting the 1300 links number from?
My bad. For some reason my eyeballs glazed and shorted out the brain.
In your case study, you had 2300+ unique visits through Google with the 250 links, yes, No?
3Way sounds great. What do you have to report for niches that are not built for adsense?
Thanks John for the information on this. I know Social Bookmarking is something that I just began to do really not too long ago. I know my traffic started to increase after doing it. Something people should all do, will help boost traffic and rankings.
Sincerely,
Jamie Boyle
I agree that social bookmarks are a great way to promote one's website. I have used Subvert & Profit to market some of my websites and it's amazing how much traffic can be brought by some of these websites - my favourite is StumbleUpon.
What's cool is that once the social bookmarking sites pick up your website, the thing goes on autopilot. More people come to my websites and further promote them via the same social bookmarking systems they came to my website in the first place.
Quality content is always the king, however. Social bookmarks can help boost one's traffic (and rankings a little), but having inbound links from websites with a high PR still matters the most.
Great Blog and I love the 3Way Links service. In fact I love it so much I have all my 70 sites using it. All keywords ranking great
My question with regards Social Bookmarking is how often I should submit a comment with a Keyword, I'm trying to push up the rankings, in the title of the Comment?
For example if I Bookmark an article with 'My Keyword' in the Title then does it help if I Bookmark another article on another day with the same Keyword in the Title? i.e. does that help or hinder or not make any difference at all to the ranking of that keyword?
All the best
Paul
Many thanks Jon for sharing this valuable information. It helped me appreciate better the immense value of this technique that I'm still graplling with. So far I had only tried a few SBMs and some other Web 2.0 sites to promote my website but I hadn't done it seriously. It looks like it's the right thing to be doing now to draw traffic to our websites.
The question I have is how often one should submit to SBMs without being accused of spaming them?
Cheers,
Ephrem
Hello. On one of your pages you mentioned an east way to put
video on your site. I cannot find it again. Could you direct me to
that info.
Thanks
Henry
Thanks Jon
Good info as usual
Simon
Thanks for the information! I guess it's one of the best way to draw more traffic from a website. And aside from that, it's the quality that is very important. If you have great posts I'm sure more readers will get into your website everyday.
Thanks Jon. will try out your suggestion
Jonathan,
Probably the most eye-opening part of this report was learning that you don't have to concentrate on one topic to still rank.
I believe that blog readers demand more than product reviews and a tightly wound focus of content.
Would you continue reading a blog that was only about 4 topics?
Me neither.
Bravo and keep up the good work!!!
Jeff
Some excellent points Jonathan!
Great post. Very interesting. I've been also getting some great results from social bookmarking sites. It is definitely easier to get indexed though them.
I too agree that every website owner should be spending a high percentage of their time marketing their ideas though social bookmarking websites.
Social sites are an excellent 3 way linking technique with super fast results, and its FREE, so life is sweet. It will prove to be the Internet gold rush for the next 12 to 18 months.
As usual, your timing is impeccable! Some great advise Jonathan. Thanks again.
Sincerely,
John Adams
Onlywire stopped working for me long ago. Looks like most of the sites it works with changes or disabled API, and developers did not adapt. It does less than a handful of sites properly, and I gave up on it…
Another terrific article. I definitely intent to conduct some experiments with shorter title text containing only the primary targeted keyword phrase.
Also, you should consider adding a Mixx icon in your social media icon area just above the related posts. Mixx has really gotten a great jump out of the gate. At only a few months in age, this social media site is already being talked about as 'the one that will eventually unseat Digg'.
Anyway, thanks for the great SEO advice.
Saw your site from DreamTeamMoney Making forum and i must say you have an awesome report!
Thank you for sharing this valuable tips!
I have to say the social book marking works. I've been using onlywire.com but I think I don't really get how to use the other one you mentioned. BTW I hadn't heard of Qualitycontent.net until I read one of the comments above. What a cool service? I think I'll join that one today.
Your Instant Article Wizard is one awesome product Jonathan.
I had to let you know this….I am not a WRITER …..but this has made my life so much easier and I am a Expert Author now and have to credit it to your software……Thank You So Very Much!!!!!!
Jonathan, I haven't join the 3waylinks.net yet. I don't really understand something and need some explanations.
You said once the links reach 250 it will stop. WHY? Do you mean once I get 250 links that will be the end?
And why limiting my links to 3-8 per day? I have a site that is about 9 months old and I think it can take up 15 to 20 links per day, for 24/7.
If I am getting wrong here, please reply and advice please.
Kudos Jon, I learn so much not only in what you teach, but the way you teach. By doing, by action, by proven tests and methods. Keep it coming!
i use onlywire since a lot of time. is a great service to bookmark automatic
Hello Jonathan,
I was just wondering, in your opinion, - on the basis of results for targeted traffic and search engine ranking, how much time and effort should go into this technique? Should it be a major strategy or something you do if you have a little extra time? We all know how time-consuming traffic generation can be, and we all want the maximum return on our investment of time and effort. Thanks for the input.
Hi, one question I'm always pondering regarding varying your keywords to avoid anchor text spam,
can you keep the main keyword the same in each link submitted
(example: dog training videos) as long as you change the bulk of it (example: would you love to purchase cheap dog training videos) another example (available now for a limited time 50% off all dog training videos) or do the main keywords have to be jumble up as well?
Did this make any sense? love to hear back from someone if poss
Thanks Jonthan!
You are the inspiration. You really got me started on this website marketing.
Its amazing to know all the wonderful things we can do on the internet and it is quite productive.
Thank you for sharing this info with us.
God bless you!
Very helpfull information. Thanks for the tip about SocialMarker.com and OnlyWire.com! I've bookmark your site as my favorite Tip's website. Great knowledge update!
I just started with an english site. During surfing i discovered your site and I found lots of really helpful information. I'll try it.
Thanks
Sorry, but what is kimerikas?
Jane.
Proceed with caution when building links through social media!
According to a new post at MarketersRelief.com, Jeff Waltz of Google warns that his company will start backhanding sites that have social media links pointing to them.
"Webmasters who rely heavily on bookmarking their own sites to gain traffic will likely see a drop in pagerank before the end of 2008", said Waltz on Google's plan to attack popular sites within the social media sphere.
Of course, they claim that this will have no impact on the regular every-day internet user…. but does anyone actually believe them?
The article in which I came across this disturbing information is located here:
Hey Jonathan, I had to come back and post another comment here, and this time its to really say thank you. I have now posted my site to several bookmarking sites and everyday I check my traffic log and its just fantastic the traffic I am getting from these sites. So once again, Thank You.
Thanks for sharing the info, it gave me what I needed,
one thing for sure being honest and giving true value, helping
other's make's a better business, cause the word does
get around, that's why I love what I do, helping other's
thank's Jonathan.
Tony Harvey
great article jon!
just started to use SocilMarker. good stuff man
god bless you bro!
Hi jon,
Nice article and Great idea..
Be success forever
That thing really worked for me. Even my home page could get that rank compared to page linked with stories submitted to social networks. You should be consistent with submission process, as initially your story is on top and if it does not get many digg, stumbles it will be buried soon, so ranking may drop.
Great share, Thanks.
Excellent points and article. It's really a vastly underused route but done right can offer nice exposure and drive natural & direct traffic. Keep up the great work!
Great advice Jonathan, but I have one question for you
Why does this webpage have zero page rank in Google. you are offering all of this helpful free information and it look s like your getting no love from the big G.
Paul:
It doesn't have a PR0. It's PR4.
Yup thats right. People use Social Bookmarking to bookmark their favourite sites. And Social Bookmarking is such a place where people around the world share their favourite website.
Thanks for your nice article.
As expected, a great post! But there's something I need to clarify. If I want to get links focused to my home page, I guess I could only submit my domain to around 20 social bookmarking sites right? In order not to get banned for spamming, I've read that you've advised to bookmark a domain only when there's updated content.
So let's say I never plan to update the content of my home page domain since It's going to be a set-it-and-forget-it adsense website, does that mean that I can only submit my home page domain only once those 20 social bookmarking sites? This in return means that I'll only get an extra 20 links for my home page which isn't really much.
Is there a way around this? If I submit the inner pages of my site, then does it also increase the links (or search ranking) to my home page? Thanks for your reply
Very usefulll advice. I notised ressently that socilbukmarks hepl o lot to promote
I always submit my pages to bookmarks with socializer.com. Together with Digg, Propeller and StumbleUpon, I find I can get ANY page indexed in Google in a matter of HOURS.
much appreciated info my friend, I MUST submit to social bookmarking sites immediately! lol…
I am curios, when people have the Icon/ Buttons for like 20 different RSS news link signup things like you have:
rss feed
bloglines
add to google
my yahoo
my msn
my aol
feed lounge
newsburst
news gator
netvibes
rojo ojo
Does that help any with Search engines are concerned? Or is it STRICTLY to get people to "bookmark" you privately, or is it like a public bookmark that search engines crawl?
Thanks man!
